I visited Beckfoot Thornton to teach two abstract portraiture and mark making workshops to year 8 classes. They are currently learning about emotion in art so we were able to incorporate emotions into our final pieces. I started by showing them different mark making techniques and how to use their tools in a nonconventional way, and as always, encouraged them to paint a section using their fingers! With my exhibition just finishing in Thornton, I was able to bring in examples of my paintings, which some students recognised from visiting the exhibition!
I visited Chemnitz for a week as part of Bradford 2025, Leeds 2023 and Chemnitz 2025 for the Makers United festival in Germany. Joined with an incredible group of creatives from Bradford, Leeds, Slovenia, Germany and Finland, we all passed our passions onto every single visitor for a week. I met so many incredible people and have formed some wonderful friendships to bring back home. To teach pottery for a week in the glorious sun has been an absolute dream. We had the chance to look around the most beautiful city and explore hidden areas, maker spaces and look at all the incredible buildings and I absolutely can’t wait to go back next year.
