HOME? 2021

During the pandemic, Swift was stuck at home, much like the rest of the world. In this performance piece, she leaves her living space to explore performance. Her use of the blanket is representative of a children’s den, and by bringing this outside of a home, she was able to bring the inside, outside. The idea of a child spending all day creating a den and feeling safe inside this, or hiding under a blanket when they feel unsafe (hearing a noise in the night, ect,) to ‘protect’ themselves is the reasoning behind her use of materials. In a time where people felt unsafe outside, she tried to oppose this by masking the outside world. Obviously, the blanket was not any protection for the virus, but in that moment, she felt almost safe from the rest of the world around her. These photos were made to ask questions about neurodiversity, ownership and belonging during the isolation of lockdown.
